Let’s continue our tour of the Pays Thionvillois, a region in Lorraine located 3 hours/3.30 hours from Belfort, perfect for a long weekend! Natural or historic sites, quirky or luxury accommodation, this region has everything to please visitors and caters for all tastes. Since we’ve found so much, I’ve listed the articles by theme. In this one, the focus is on heritage with the Château de Malbrouck, the city of Thionville and the medieval town of Rodemack. Let’s go!

We visited so many interesting places during our 4-day tour of the Pays Thionvillois that it’s impossible to put everything in one article (there’s a strong chance that you’d lose interest along the way!). Therefore, I’ve decided to sort these places by theme: memorial sites, heritage and nature. Today, we travel back in time with the Hackenberg Fort and the Neufchef Iron Mines Museum!

We had already tested a few tree houses in the past! But we had never done so in Moselle. So, when the Pays de Thionville Tourist Office invited us to try Cabanes en Lorraine, we were delighted to discover a completely new universe.

In September, we travelled the Pays Thionvillois in Moselle in association with Thionville Tourist Office. They had a great programme lined up for us so that we could visit this part of Lorraine which holds so many treasures in addition to those associated with the history of the steel industry. I am resuming my series of articles on the Grand-Est for a stay in France, in the Pays Thionvillois, the Three borders area in Moselle. I’m taking you on a tour of some of the region’s key sites and a visit to Thionville, perfect for a weekend break!

The Lorraine. Honestly, I did not know a lot about this French region in the North of the country, but I like a good Quiche Lorraine! Metz and Nancy are two cities that most Dutch tourists pass on the way to the sunny South of France, during the holidays. But I didn’t know they make excellent wine here, celebrate ‘Sint Nicolas’ just like we do in The Netherlands and that there are delacy stores and pastry shops everywhere…

I have a great address for you for a getaway in Moselle near Sierck-les-Bains in Lorraine: the Moulin d’Apach. Why stop here? We are in the Three borders area, near the city of Luxembourg! Also, there are some interesting sites in Moselle.
